Started in a rented mud hut in 1991, the Asha Kiran Hospital was established primarily to offer medical care to the tribal people of Lamtaput block. Today, we are a multi specialty hospital offering numerous services to Lamtaput block as well as to the surrounding areas. Besides the government district hospital in Koraput, we are the only secondary level hospital for nearly 200 kms around. Thus we play an important role in the health scenario of Koraput district which happens to be one of the three most backward districts of Orissa (part of the KBK block).
Asha Kiran Hospital is a 45 bedded medical facility manned by staffs who feel called to spread the love of Christ through their work amongst the poorest of the poor in India. We are dedicated to providing low cost, ethical health care in an atmosphere of caring and commitment that reflects our Christian identity.
• General, obstretric and maxillo-facial surgeries with anaesthetist
• Obstetrics and gynaecology
• General Medicine
• High dependency unit
Other facilities for the benefit of our patients are blood bank services, ultrasound, X-ray, laboratory and patient counselling. In order to try and benefit our poor patients we also have set up a referral system for tertiary clinical, radiological and laboratory services.
Although our hospital consists mainly of general wards we keep a few special rooms to try and subsidise our poor patients. Our policy is never to turn anyone away due to lack of finances although patients are encouraged to pay as much as they can afford to prevent dependence.
The hospital is Janana Sankhya Yojana approved and a RNTCP approved TB centre. We have also recently become an accredited centre for a government health insurance for below poverty line patients (RSBY scheme).
Ambapada is a medium size village of Guneipada gram panchayat, comprise of two different people groups living together; Mali (51%), and Gadaba (41%) out of 56 houses. The main problem is its village road, which connects to the main road. Village people use to talk dejectedly about their own road “25 years old cow jaws are still laying on our road still.” This visualises the condition of their village road.
The Asha Kiran Society works in areas where schools are either non-existent, non functional or of a poor quality. The drop out rate of children from schools among minority communities is quite high. Through our work and presence here, we hope to see a holistic transformation in people. For this to be sustainable, educating children, nurturing and developing them to be godly leaders and decision makers in the future is one area where we would like to put our energies into. Therefore taking these matters into account, Asha Kiran Society has proposed starting a school, called the "Asha Kiran Academy", which can cater to the educational needs mostly fo the children of the Lamtaput block.
The calling for us, as individuals and as a group is to so abide in Christ and He in us and among us, that we experience and make known His transforming love through our commitment.
